2011-2012 Year In Review

The International Intellectual Property Society (“IIPS”) hosted seminars presented by world-renowned experts during its September 2011 to June 2012 season. Our speakers included many notable officials. Transitional and non-transitional CLE credits for New York or New Jersey were available to attendees. IIPS 2011-2012 events afforded attendees the opportunity to learn about current trends and issues as well as to participate in stimulating conversations with industry peers. The presentations included:

Development and Contours of Induced Patent Infringement (January 24, 2012) Wendy E. Miller, Esq.,  discussed the: “Development and Contours of Induced Patent Infringement” at Pfizer’s offices at 
235 East 42nd St., just east of Grand Central in New York City.

International IP Issues In A Bankruptcy Context (February 28, 2012) David L. Barrack and David A. Rosenzweig, both partners at Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., presented “International IP Issues In A Bankruptcy Context” at Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP, at 666 Fifth Avenue (at 53rd Street).

International Perspectives on Copyright Reform (March 27, 2012) The International IP Society, together with the Institute for Information Law & Policy of New York Law School (NYLS), co-sponsored a most timely discussion on International Perspectives on Copyright Reform at NYLS (Faculty Commons, W201, at 185 W. Broadway).  Our panel of Steven Masur (MasurLaw), Jason Pascal (The Orchard), Marie-Andrée Weiss (solo practice), and Professor Peter Yu (Drake University Law) was moderated by NYLS’ Professor Molly Land.

Brands, Blogs, and the Big Bad Wolf (March 13th, 2012) Stephen R. Baird, Esq., head of Intellectual Property and Trademark and Brand Management with Winthrop & Weinstine in Minneapolis, and named by Minnesota Lawyer as a ‘2011 Attorney of the Year’, addressed international issues in branding such as trademark bullying in a presentation of “Brands, Blogs, and the Big Bad Wolf” at the IBM facility at 590 Madison Avenue in New York.

Global Privacy (April 10th, 2012) Sandra Kirsch, Privacy Counsel and Consultant and Frank Politano, Partner, K&L Gates LLP, discussed Global Privacy including a review of international concerns and practice tips at the IBM facility at 590 Madison Ave. in New York.

Traditional Knowledge at WIPO (May 8, 2012) Mr. Wend Wendland, Director of the Traditional Knowledge Division of WIPO, discussed the latest developments regarding rights in Traditional Knowledg at the World Intellectual Property Organization
, 2 United Nations Plaza.
