IIPS EVENT

AT WIPO HEADQUARTERS (2 UN PLAZA)

in celebration of WORLD IP DAY

April 8, 2011

Dear Colleague:

The International Intellectual Property Society (IIPS) is very pleased to announce a joint event with WIPO in celebration of World Intellectual Property Day.  This year’s focus is on "Designing the Future,” and the event will feature speakers from WIPO and the local IP bar (to be announced).  The event will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at WIPO Headquarters, 25th floor of 2 UN Plaza (44th Street, slightly west of 1st Avenue), from 5:20-7:20pm.  All attendees will be welcome at a reception after the presentation from 6:20pm-7:20pm, hosted by the IIPS.

Most people are aware of intellectual property (IP), but many still view these as business or legal concepts with little relevance to their own lives.  To address this gap, WIPO’s Member States decided in 2000 to designate an annual World Intellectual Property Day.  They chose April 26, the date on which the Convention establishing WIPO originally entered into force in 1970.  Each year, WIPO and its Member States celebrate World Intellectual Property Day with activities, events and campaigns.  These seek to increase public understanding of what IP really means, and to demonstrate how the IP system fosters not only music, arts and entertainments, but also all the products and technological innovations that help to shape our world.

The fee for non-members is $20.  Admission for other law school students is $10.  The nominal $60 annual membership dues fee may be enclosed with the membership application found on our website www.iipsny.org, or you may pay by credit card through our website.  Membership entitles you to attend this meeting and the remaining IIPS meetings in May and June 2011 at no additional charge.  If you would like to reserve your space and/or pay at the door, or if you have any questions about this program, please contact email iips@comcast.net.

As with IIPS programs in general, NY and NJ CLE credit will be offered.  This seminar will provide at least one (1) transition/non-transitional CLE credit.  Mail the Membership Form with annual dues, or meeting payment by April 18, 2011, to Harris Wolin at Myers Wolin, LLC, 100 Headquarters Plaza, Morristown, NJ  07960.

We look forward to seeing you in April and at other upcoming events and, as in the past, invite comments and suggestions for programs that might be of interest to you.

Sincerely,
