Information is the foundation of modern society.  From finance to defense, computer technology is the backbone of the information age.  However, the sophistication of which international actors attack and exploit gaps within information technology systems proposes threats so severe that even the acknowledgement of U.S. cyber capabilities is highly classified.  Whether pertaining to a government, corporation, or an individual, the threat of cyber offense is real and an understanding of the technology, strategy and legal framework is critical.  The International Intellectual Property Society (“IIPS”) is very pleased that Orin Paliwoda, Esq. will present “Cybersecurity: the legal framework governing offensive and defensive cyber operations” on Tuesday, May 24th, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pfizer building, 235 East 42nd St. in New York.  Refreshments will be served.

Orin’s presentation will address the technical and strategic considerations of cyber-offensive operations as well as how International and U.S. law attempts to deal with such threats.  The program will focus on the characteristics between cyberattack and cyberexploitation, operational structure, consequences to intellectual property and National Security interests, as well as how the law of unarmed conflict (“LOAC”) and U.S. Federal laws apply to offensive operations.

Orin Paliwoda is the founder of Paliwoda PLLC, which specializes in intellectual property, business and technology-related law.  An active member of New York’s “silicon alley” community, he has counseled clients ranging from sophisticated venture capitalists to innovative start-ups.  By providing legal guidance to emerging IT ventures, Mr. Paliwoda is intimately aware of the strengths and pitfalls governing the latest trends in technology.  From location-based applications to cloud computing, Orin regularly addresses novel issues of privacy, e-commerce and IP rights.  Mr. Paliwoda attended Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, T.M. Cooley School of Law and the University of Michigan.  He is admitted to practice in New York, Connecticut, Michigan, District of Columbia, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
