As intellectual property becomes ever more global in scope, the potential for international intellectual property disputes has also increased. The World Intellectual Property Organization (“WIPO”) offers the services of its Arbitration and Mediation Center as an effective and cost efficient manner to resolve such grievances. The International Intellectual Property Society (“IIPS”) is very pleased to co-host a program with WIPO and the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law (“ABA-IPL”) to review the potential for “Arbitration and Mediation in International Property Disputes” on Thursday, March 25, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the IBM Building, 590 Madison Avenue (at 57th Street and Madison Avenue) 12th Floor in New York City.

 

The “Arbitration and Mediation in International Property Disputes” presentation will be divided into two segments. In the first segment, “Different Options for Resolving International Disputes Involving Intellectual Property,” Pete Michaelson, Arbitrator and Mediator, Michaelson and Associates and Adam Rattray, Head of the Information and External Relations Section of the Arbitration and Mediation Center, will provide an overview of the options available in resolving international intellectual property issues. The speakers will address mediation and arbitration and their potential advantages. In the second segment, “ADR and UDRP from the Practioner’s Perspective,” James R. Davis, Partner, Arent Fox LLP, Honorary John S. Martin, Jr., Former U.S Federal Judge for the Southern District of New York, and Wendy Schwartz, Partner, ReedSmith LLP will relate their first hand experiences resolving differences utilizing WIPO’s Arbitration and Mediation Center and provide tips and advice for parties using the Center’s resources.

 

The enrollment process for this event differs from IIPS standard procedures. As with IIPS programs in general, NY CLE credit will be offered. This seminar will provide four (4) transitional /non-transitional (Skills) CLE Credits.

 

Membership in the IIPS entitles you to attend other regular meetings during the September 2009 - September 2010 year at no charge. The nominal $60 annual membership dues fee may be enclosed with the membership application.
