The International Intellectual Property Society (IIPS) is very pleased to announce that Mr. Vincent O’Reilly, Director of the Department of Industrial Policy for the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (“OHIM”) and Marc Jonas Block, Esq., Senior Associate at Kucker & Bruh, LLP, will be discussing, “Registered Community Designs” on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the offices of Baker and Hostetler LLP, 45 Rockefeller Plaza, (on West 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues), New York, New York 10111 on the 11th Floor.
Mr. O’Reilly has been in the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market since 1995. Mr. O’Reilly oversees policy, including examination guidelines for Community trademarks and Registered Community Designs. In the mid-1980s he was in charge of trademarks and design in the Irish Patent Office.
Mr. Block is a senior associate at Kucker & Bruh, LLP. whose legal practice includes trademark prosecution, intellectual property licenses, and commercial litigation. He is the author of an article When are Ideas Protectible? He serves as the Secretary of the IIPS and is an active member of the New York State Bar Association.
Mr. O’Reilly and Mr. Block will review the scope of protection provided by a Registered Community Design. They will review the process for obtaining a Registered Community Design and highlight the advantages of such protection. They will highlight significant differences between design protection in the USA and Registered Community Designs.
The fee for non-members is $20. Admission for law school students is $10. The nominal $60 annual membership dues fee may be enclosed with the membership application. Membership entitles you to attend other regular meetings during the September 2009 – September 2010 year at no charge.
